One of CYI's better-known programs, Sounds of the Street (SOTS) is a 20 week TAFE accredited music course where students learn to compose, perform and record their own original music. TAFE Modules covered in the course are Music listening, Performance, Composition and Performing for a demo. Students also have the opportunity to learn an instrument. At the end of the program their music is professionally mixed and mastered onto a double CD. Students then launch the CD at a Sydney music venue and perform their own songs.
The music that is produced on CD is challenging, highly original and ultimately uplifting. Sample tracks are available to download below. Contact

"Bomb",
a hip-hop video clip performed by CYI students
Guy Merindol and Vanessa Francis, recently won
the Judges Choice Encouragement Award at the
SMARTS Film Festival. The judges were impressed
because the student performers and musicians
were also the film-makers, and this was the
first music video clip they had ever produced.
