Creative Youth Initiatives (CYI) provides young people with creative opportunities, with the aim of building self esteem, improving communication skills and providing positive learning experiences and educational qualifications. The programs are Centrelink approved and often supported by TAFE Outreach.
CYI is well equipped for most art and music
challenges and encourages students to be involved in
community arts and performance. Short courses are also
available at CYI such as creative writing , photography,
drama and graphic design.
Students are provided with access to information about a range of pertinent issues, including substance abuse, sexuality, goal-setting, dealing with feelings, assertiveness, working with others, health and training opportunities.
At the same time, students can receive support as they deal with housing issues, Centrelink, mental health, abuse, and drug and alcohol misuse. Referrals can also be made to specialist services.
